How we make gaps in the smile disappear with dental bridges

Architectural bridges help to get you from point “A” to point “B.” Dental bridges also allow you to reach your goal smile by effectively “bridging” the gaps between teeth. They are a well-established form of permanent (non-removable) tooth replacement.

Bridges at Pure Dental Care

From our office in New York City, Dr. Nazia Ahmed may recommend a conventional dental bridge to replace one tooth or a few missing teeth. Due to the design of the dental bridge, the positioning of the missing teeth is important. There should be a row of missing teeth because the dental bridge is a prosthetic device secured to fill those spaces. It is also essential that any teeth next to these gaps remain healthy and strong. These neighboring teeth will function as anchors to hold up the dental bridge, which includes the artificial tooth (or teeth, as the case may be).

Building your bridge

Bridges are made up of two crowns. One crown is secured on each tooth on either side of the gap. All crowns require the reduction and reshaping of the natural tooth. In this manner, each crown will fit on top of the tooth perfectly. The crowns are also secured to the replacement/prosthetic teeth. When Dr. Ahmed cements the crowns to the anchor teeth, the bridge fills the gap. With your new teeth held in place by its crowned neighbors, the bridge makes your gaps disappear to renew your confidence and health effectively.

What to expect

Bridges largely require a couple of appointments. Dr. Ahmed “prepares” the abutments or anchor teeth during your first visit. Impressions or models of these teeth are made, and any information collected during this process is then sent to our quality dental lab. Before you leave, we will apply a temporary bridge. The reasons for this step are two-fold: One, the temporary protects the prepared teeth and the exposed gums. Two, applying a temporary bridge looks more appealing than having a gap in your smile. We strive to support your satisfaction at every step! Once your permanent bridge is ready, you return to our office so Dr. Ahmed can cement it to the abutments.

A lifetime of healthy, pleasing smiles

Bridges can last for many years with good oral hygiene. Pure Dental Care works closely with patients to advise on techniques and products to best clean underneath the bridge. If you are concerned about the “upkeep” associated with traditional bridges, our team in New York City is excited to acquaint you with crowns, bridges, and dentures that are retained in the jaw by implants – not neighboring teeth.
